Sylak Ravenspine
Saturday 18th January
3pm – Presentation
Creator Space in Basildon Library Basildon Centre, The, St. Martins Square, Basildon SS14 1EE

A spotlight presentation by artist Sylak Ravenspine, which will include a talk, live demonstrations and activities.

You are invited to take part in an artist led show-and-tell experience in the company of local artist Sylak Ravenspine, as he takes you through a guided tour of some of his most fundamental artistic inspirations concerning the landscape of Essex and the effect it has had on his work over recent years, in a frank and inciteful talk interspersed with live demonstrations and opportunities to participate in short activities at various intervals throughout the session.

The talk and slideshow will be accompanied with opportunities to ask questions and try out many of the techniques being covered. You can expect to have a go at some of the processes involved in ink making as well as being granted a sneak-peek into the Pocket Worlds workshop, being planned later in the year as part of the Creative Estuary calendar of events across the area.

Sylak Ravenspine is an environmental artist, eco-ink maker, and a Basildon resident based at theblokhouse Studios, Southend.

His art practice makes use of natural materials and waste products harvested from the coastline and urban areas of Essex, which he transforms into liquid suspensions and sculptural pieces such as drawing inks and earth and clay spheres which reflect the tones and textures of the landscape that surrounds the places he works at.

Sylak’s output is nuanced by a range of inspirations: medieval art, geology and local history. He takes an active role in archaeology and in preserving the neighbouring wildlife through various care programmes and initiatives.”
